the gorgonzola incident

true story.

I heart gorgonzola, I heart it hard (p.s I love Italian wine too… don’t tell Le Villagers that). And last Friday, while doing some grocery shopping with The Husband, I came across a scrumptious hunk of gorgonzola. I picked it up, looked at The Husband and declared,”I have the most perfect recipe to use this in!” He smiled at me like he always does when I make these grand culinary announcements and we continued along.

On our way home, I chattered all about the pasta I would make with the scrumptious gorgonzola, the very simple, yet very delicious pasta… linguine, spinach, gorgonzola, olive oil, and lemon (see, it really is that simple). I was quite pleased with myself and The Husband smiled at me some more.

The next day, I busied myself making the pasta for lunch. So happy that it was quick and I wouldn’t be working away forever and I could return to my very important pinning and the Gilmore Girls episode I had waiting for me (I have recently started watching Gilmore Girls from the beginning… I have no idea what made me do this but now I can’t stop even though Lorelai Gilmore just might be the most annoying television character of all time).

Lunchtime rolled around and we sat down to eat. Me smiling because I was so very chuffed with myself and my scrumptious gorgonzola pasta, The Husband smiling because he was about to eat (it doesn’t take much… it really doesn’t). But then The Husband took a bite and he wasn’t smiling anymore. He actually made a yuck face (the only other time I’ve ever seen The Husband make a yuck face was the pulled pork sandwich debacle of 2011).

What’s wrong?” I asked, “Don’t you like it?

I don’t like gorgonzola.

Seriously.
There are no words.
bisou

P.S. My buddy Aidan is giving away a French cookbook over on her blog. I think you should go check it out here, and enter too. French cookbooks are swish.

  2. So funny. I hope he found a sandwich or something…I love Gorgonzola and I think I have watched the Gilmore girls series entirely at least twice now with my own girls. I watched in French, in English and probably while eating Gorgonzola, too 🙂

  7. I'm with the husband on this one – for some reason I love roquefort but don't really care for gorgonzola. And I treat myself to a GG episode at least once . . . or four times a week. Got season 6 and 7 for Christmas and a little worried about how I'll fill my time after I'm done.

  8. I always think I'm going to like it, because it's similar to roquefort, but it is OH so different!

  9. To be honest, my dear Sara … I'm italian and I don't like gorgonzola too! There are two different type of gorgonzola, sweet and spicy (spicy is the one pictured in your post) and other is a creamy gorgonzola, is a Gorgonzola with soft pasta and not too spicy. Maybe your husband can love this one! But I totally agree with him!Bisou, Babi

  10. haha, too funny! I can't believe he didn't say anything the whole time you were gushing about your recipe! I've never had gorgonzola before, so I can't say if I would like it or not. I never really got into Gilmore Girls, just wasn't the show for me. I agree that Lorelai is probaby the most annoying character, haha!

  12. I have no problem whatsoever with him not liking it, heaven knows that I sure don't like a lot of what he likes (hello… calf brains!!!) it was the total lack of listening to me that was ridiculous. I wonder what runs through his head when I talk. I think it's something like, “wahn wahn, whan whan whan”

  13. He can not like gorgonzola all he wants, but he really does need to start listening to me. I mean, that was just ridiculous! But I was the last one laughing when he was stuck with nothing to eat for lunch 🙂

  14. LOL! He waited until then to tell you?? Too funny! But, in his defense, I'm not a fan of gorgonzola either. lol

  16. Yep, according to all my male friends I asked, it is “wah, wah, wah…”

  17. And he couldn't have mentioned this earlier?! I was tempted to accuse the whole male species of a lack of listening skills until I realized that whenever my husband talks about having to change the car's doohicky because the thing-a-ma-bob is doing something or other, I also hear only wahn wahn wahn.

  18. I love gorgonzola in risotto but have never made a pasta sauce with it. I am sure it would be delicious. The Husband definitely lost out. Unfortunately, my daughter who general has a very own mind about food hates gorgonzola and blue cheeses, about the ownly thing I know that she doesn't like. So the Husband is not alone.

  34. Mmmmm, this recipe sounds incredible. I love gorgonzola and spinach and I'm so going to try to make this dish! Thanks! What's scary and random is that my mom and I were JUST talking about Gilmore Girls this morning. I was an extra on the show and I was telling her that on most tv shows, 2 to 4 pages of the script is filmed per day but on GG, they went through about 12 pages (which is A LOT) because they talked so fast!! I too can't stand Lorelei (she wasn't nice in real life)…

  38. Why do they do that?? I made a butternut squash/blue cheese pasta dish for dinner one night, Sir Lancelot said he liked it and suggested I make it for a dinner party the following week with FRENCH guests and then I had so many leftovers we had it a few nights later and his response to me when he wasn't eating it was, “I don't really like butternut squash.” What?!?! Like, why did he have me make the meal three times? So weird. I think your pasta sounds lovely and it's making me hungry right now!
