welcome to the jungle

++ The Husband spent Saturday with a giant weed wacker clearing a path into the garden as he whacked along. It’s nowhere near finished yet but at least we can actually see what’s what now. For example, we have a wine barrel. Why is there a wine barrel in my back garden? I have no idea, but it’s mine now. We also found a huge bone of some kind. We’re thinking maybe cow and that the people that used to live here had a really large dog, or perhaps a pet lion.

++ Every single box has been unpacked. Now if I can only find places to put everything, I’ll be all set.

++ Despite his best effort Mr. London did not win the French rugby championship over the weekend but he played his little heart out right to the very end and I’m proud of him. I’m even more proud of him though, for heading to Corsica today to walk across the island to raise money for sick children. If you’re feeling in anyway generous and would like to help Mr. London and a bunch of other rugby players raise money for children in need, you can do so, by clicking here (and if you do, and you have a problem understanding the website in French email me at sarainlepetitvillage@gmail.com, and I’ll help you out… anything for the kids)

++ It turns out that my house was a barn hundreds of years ago. If you would have told me that one day I would be living in a barn in France, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have believed you.

++ Papa has announced that he is taking Fifty hunting for wild boar next fall, and to this I say: OVER. MY. DEAD. BODY. Can you really see Fifty hunting wild boar? I can’t either.

++ Living in the new LPV may be detrimental to my figure. Everyday when I pick up the baguette at the Boulangerie, I pick up a chocolate chip cookie too (yes, I choose the cookie over the pain au chocolate because I’m 100% pure Americana like that).

++ The Husband turns thirty in twelve days and I have no idea what to get him but am taking suggestions.
Anyone?

  1. We did major yard work also! It seems to never end.

  2. Sounds like the garden could be a lengthy project but at least you can look forward to little surprises coming forth as the husband makes progress on the job. You are lucky that you find chocolate chip cookies in your boulangerie. We don't find those in Sablet.

  6. Don't let him take Fifty, he'll turn him in a heartless killer, ack. The garden's starting to look great. That wine barrel, perhaps a little stool or drinks table for when you want to picnic? I think you need to get The Husband a leaf blower/vacuum so he can make the garden prettier. Either that or some new dancin' shoes.

  7. I like that jungle, I would take it more gladly than the festive Avignon! Now I am curious too who is Mr London actually, even I need to admid that I know only one rugby player and that is Chabal! For the birthday, does The Husband like (extreme) sports? Parachute jump (this is on my b-day list for someone next year… it's secret still) ! Or less extreme, canoeing trip to Ardèche.

  16. Sara, regarding the big 30 gift, may I suggest one of those “Smartbox” packages (pretty certain you can even find those in grocery stores like Intermarche…), where you basically purchase an “adventure”, like a car-racing training course, or a weekend for 2 in some really awesome location, or a fantastic dinner for two in a Michelin rated restaurant, the choices are endless! Here is the link to some activities a guy would probably enjoy: http://www.smartbox.com/fr/coffret-cadeau-homme/#Nav=Laterale Bonne chance!

  24. i can't help but think of frances mayes' book under the tuscan sun when i see that abandoned wine cask in your backyard and your husband going at the back 40 with a weedwhacker – all you need now is to hire a contractor with polish workmen and you've got 'under the provencal sun!' i'm sure your movie version will be much better 😉

  25. I never know what to buy for my husband. My parents, sister and I all chipped in to buy a super nice game camera for his 30th birthday and, because it was a little too fancy for his style, he asked permission to return it. He has yet to replace it… with ANYTHING. So technically he never got a gift for his 30th birthday and it was HIS choice. Dumb. I pretty much have given up and, if anything, I'll just cook a nice meal.

  27. Wow, Sara. How far you have come. A year ago you would NOT have been offering to translate French for anyone! And, I would keep Fifty home. He might be more like dinner for the wild boar! Not good.

  36. Well done for getting your unpacking done! For Mr D's 40th birthday I bought him an “Experience” (I think it was a “Red Letter Day” one…) He chose a day's hawking for two – so I got a present too! So I vote for one of the Smartboxes too…preferably one for two people that YOU fancy!!

(which is beautiful, btw! really. very envy-worthy, overgrown and all).congrats on unpacking so quickly!! you'll find places for all the stuff. my favorite is usually under the bed or sprawled across the coffee table (but that can be our little secret).xokymbitty.and.bunny
