++ Remember when I told you that I got The Husband hooked on The Real Housewives of New Jersey? Well I’ve outdone myself, now he’s hooked on Downton Abby too. I feel like the luckiest girl in the whole wide world. Every spare moment is spent cuddled up on the couch watching what’s going down in the Crowley house, which is just about perfect because cold, late autumn days are made for cuddling up on the couch.Β
++ There’s something about Downton Abby that reminds me of Christmas, I’m not sure why, but it does. And more specifically, it reminds me of Christmas in Dublin. Whereas Thanksgiving finds me crying for the U.S., for me, Christmas is all about Dublin and with only 21 days to go until Santa’s arrival, I’m missing Dublin something fierce. I swear, it’s the most magical place to be at Christmastime (other than the North Pole of course, but who really wants to be at the North Pole at Christmastime, I bet it’s freaking freezing. I spent a Christmas in BucharestΒ once, and the was cold enough for me thank you very much). Long story short, I’m missing Dublin, and if you ever have the opportunity to spend Christmas there, I urge to, you won’t regret it, and that’s a Sara Louise promise.Β

++ Do you see that fire hazard in that picture up there? Well besides The Husband’s malleable television habits, there’s another reason why I’m the luckiest girl in the world… the other day he came home from work early and busied himself upstairs in a very secretive manner. It turns out it was the fourth anniversary of the day we met (although I had completely forgotten) and he had lit all of those candles to surprise me. It was the sweetest fire hazard there ever was.

++ Do you watch Sons of Anarchy? If you don’t, you should. You so should. Honestly, I’m borderline obsessed, and that’s OK, I’ll admit that. Recently I came across this article in Rolling Stone about it… see, Sons of Anarchy is practically Shakespearean, totally highbrow.

++ At this very moment I am drinking the most perfect cup of tea (Barry’s of course). It’s so perfect I had to stop and tell you about it. I’m a firm believer in celebrating small victories and making a perfect cuppa qualifies.

++ My favorite new way to practice my French is by watchingΒ Le Juste Prix, it’s the French version of The Price is Right. I’m really, really good at it. Instead of being on during the daytime, it’s on at night, right before the news, and sometimes I watch it with Papa. We shout at the TV together. It’s a fun way to bond.

++ And now that I realize that this whole post is practically about television (minus a fire hazard and a cup of tea) I feel like I should take this time to mention that I am reading too… New York by Edward Rutherford if you’d like to know, but since my kindle is telling me that I’m at 59% I guess I’ll be finishing it soon.

So what are you reading?Β

  2. I love watching Une Famille En Or, because when you survey 100 frenchmen and their top 5 answers are listed . . . you get some interesting responses an American would never guess.

  4. I spent Chrismtas in Bucharest once, and it will also be the last. Besides it being freaking cold, I didn't think the city was very “Christmas-y”. I expected more and was very let down. You live, you learn.

  5. Le Juste Prix! I just watched my first episode after you posted about it. The demo girls are so slutty looking – yikes! Believe it or not, going to Hollywood to be in the audience of The Price is Right is on my bucket list but it's just not the same without Bob Barker.

If you're missing Dublin, you should read his two about Ireland! http://www.amazon.com/Princes-Ireland-Dublin-Saga/dp/0345472357 Princes of Ireland (the first) Rebels of Ireland (second)

  8. The day I get my husband to sit through an episode of DA, there will be pigs flying around and snowballs in hell…never gonna happen. But he will tolerate the train wreck that is RHONJ because it really is fascinating to watch. So cute that the husband made that lighted heart! Really darling of him.

  11. What an awesome sweetie with that candle display!! I am watching a lot of French movies with subtitles on Netflix to practice in the most lazy way learning French. Most recently was Mozart's Sister…quite lovely, set in France. Reading? Words In A French Life. Making this language learning easy on me, lolol, I am so lazy girl. The Price is Right in French is a GREAT suggestion…I have a French channel line up on Roku so will have to see if I can get that program!!!

  13. That's awesome your husband enjoys Downton. My husband just makes fun of my obsession with it.I read New York a while ago but thoroughly enjoyed it. Another New York (with a bit or Ireland thrown in) book I would recommend is Pete Hammil's Forever. I think I liked that even more. I myself literally just finished Tatiana de Rosnay's latest, The House I Loved which was quite sad.

Everyone seems to really like it.My friends work over at FX, I'll tell them to keep their eye out for any SOA swag for you. : )We're just finishing up Twin Peaks (for the 4th time – we're obsessed) and then I want to introduce him to Gossip Girl. Oddly enough, most guys get hooked on the show. I've tested it several times…hopefully Seb won't fail me.
