// Did you know crayons can burn like a candle for twenty minutes? Yeah, me either. But apparently they do and in case of some blackout emergency, you can use crayons to replace candles in a pinch. My mother informed me of this the other day and after she told me, I said, “but we don’t have crayons“, so she said, “maybe you should buy some“, and then I said, “maybe I should just buy candles.” These are the conversations you have when you move back home as an adult.

// Back in December I saw Night At The Museum 3. It was cute, and sweet, and funny, and at the end when it was Robin William’s last scene as Teddy Roosevelt, I bawled like a baby. Tears upon tears rolled down my face like I was a distressed infant #ohcaptainmycaptain

// At the movie theater, there were all of these empty seats around us, like loads of them. But guess where a family of five chose to sit? You guessed it, all up in my grill, as in the seat right next to mine. Who does that?! Why do people do this?! Those people bug. I don’t like those people.

// My friend Amy is having a baby next month. It’s a boy and we’re all completely over the moon. She hasn’t picked out a name yet but I’m doing everything in my power to get her to name him Fraser, as in Jamie Fraser. She totally should, shouldn’t she? Of course she should.

// Is anybody on Poshmark? I am. Just thought I should tell someone.

// There’s this viagra commercial on TV here with a Cindy Crawford ripoff in a blue dress who just walks around this empty house brushing her hair and staring at herself in the mirror or out the windows. It’s weird and it totally skeeves me out. Does it skeeve you out too? Please say it’s not only me.

// Confession: I don’t like Target. There, I said it. (Pretty please don’t tell the Blogger Police I said that.)

// Tomorrow’s my birthday (aka: International Day of Awesomeness), and despite Gregory’s and my best efforts, he will not be here for it. Unfortunately he has something in France that he simply cannot get out of on the 10th, but, he will be here on the 11th, so yay. That also means that I get to stretch out my celebrations to another week. Yay, again.

// At a party a few weeks back, an old school chum said how much she envied myself and another friend because we chose a different path, that, traveling/ expat/ gypsy path, and she wishes that she had gotten to experience all of the things that we did. I smiled and told her that yes, experiencing different cultures was wonderful, and I wouldn’t trade my life choices for anything, but (and this is a big ol’ but), it’s a trade off, and I pointed to her kids running around the backyard and the beautiful home that she and her husband have made. You see, we don’t have that, we have experiences, and they’ve been amazing, but, we don’t have anything concrete, and as another birthday looms, I can honestly say that that blows (RE: HURRY THE EFF UP NVC). So I’m really, really looking forward to Gregory getting here permanently so we can start to pour some foundation and build something concrete.

  1. He's going to get there, and you will build what belongs uniquely to the two of you. Happy Birthday!

  2. hahaha I hear you about the movie theater. We just went to see the new JLo movie and the theater was empty. Totally empty. So we sat in the middle (of course) and next thing we know this group of 3 loud ladies came and sat RIGHT in front of us…. :/

  4. A) HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I'm sorry that things aren't working out for Gregory to be with you to celebrate (doesn't the government understand that your birthday is coming up??? perfect opportunity for some good news!), and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his visa/green card/whatever process gets its show on the road so you can all have some peace of mind.B) I HATE WHEN PEOPLE IGNORE PERSONAL SPACE. When there are endless empty spots in the movie theatre or in a classroom or even in the parking lot, don't you dare try to come and park yourself next to me. it's not a wise decision.

  5. Happy birthday! Isn't it funny how the grass is always greener, and even knowing that, we still wish we were on the other side of the fence?

  6. If I had a penny for every time I've had the “building something concrete” thought…..HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🙂

  7. Happy birthday! I think birthdays should be celebrated all month long:) And oh yes, the conversations you have as an adult living back home, they are always interesting!

  8. Happy Birthday! I'm sure you'll have a lovely time anyway and can get to celebrate it again with Gregory when he arrives. For info, happiness lies in spending money on experiences rather than things – it's been scientifically proven (see MOOC on science of happiness). 🙂 So you've been on the right track, but I know what you mean about building something concrete. There's a time and a place. 🙂

  11. I know what you mean about the empty space/people syndrom – it's like parking in almost empty carpark – you park where there are loads of empty spaces & the next car parks right next to you – I mean WHY? Anyway Happy Birthday from one Aquarius to another & I too love your jammies.

  14. PS I knew that about crayons. The joke is “in an emergency, they burn for twenty minutes”… “How long do they burn when it's not an emergency?” but you didn't fall into that trap 😉

  15. It's so fun to be able to drag out your birthday celebration over a week or two!! Bummer Gregory won't be with you though! Happy Birthday!!Interesting about the crayons. Never knew that!Oh I don't get it when a theater is empty and people sit RIGHT NEXT TO YOU!! Ugh! Come on people!!I didn't know people like you existed that don't like Target. How sad for you!! 😉 Ha! I love it and miss it!! I'm curious what it is you don't like about it. Hmmm……Traveling/expat life is great, but yeah, what you said…..no foundation. Right now I'm ok with that, but there are days it bothers me. Another hmmmmm…..

  16. Belated Happy Birthday. And enjoy celebrating with Gregory when he arrives – any excuse to spread out a birthday is a good one, I guess…and next year, when Gregory is with you, it will be even better. You are still young, y'all, and you will have the opportunity to put down your roots and settle and grow. Enjoy the moment, and plan for the future. God bless xx

  17. Happy late birthday!!! From your last paragraph, am I supposed to take that once Gregory is permanently in the US, you guys are going to start a family? :)Other thoughts: I, too, do not see what the big deal is about Target. Just don't get it. Also, crayons can burn even though they don't have wicks? How do you set them on fire?

  19. You are a mess, Miss Sara. You make me smile. Happy Birthday. My blog is still a mess so I'm going to put you on bloglovin to see your posts more often and so I can't lose you. I don't think they are ever going to fix my blog – all errors and no reading list.

  20. Belated happy birthday! Cheers to experiences over foundations. I've always thought it's better to have lived like that song…Ugh I can't remember.. and did them all while being young instead of later. Wishing you both, foundations and adventures.

  23. Happy belated Birthday! Gregory should be here now, so enjoy! And…regarding expat traveling adventures vs. building a foundation…you have built a foundation with your husband…you chose to put off the rest. Now you can begin (you already have, just waiting for the red tape to end!). I did the opposite…married at 22, babies at 23 and 26. Now I'm looking at retirement in 2 years…it goes fast! Enjoy the process!

  24. Another belated birthday wish! Still you had birthday & Valentine's Day rolled into one. I'd take experiences any day off the week. In our mid 40's (yep I'm an old blogger) we took a few years out, bought a sail boat and sailed the US and Caribbean. What do you think makes me smile most? The years before 9-5 ing, working to pay the mortgage or evenings in a Caribbean harbour having pot lucks with new friends? Je ne regrette rein!
