oh là là, oh là là: Part 3

You see, for me, what Aidan’s visit to Le Petit Village came down to was this… me having some quality girl time (it should be noted that I actually do have quality time with all the French women in my life; French Mommy, Papa’s Wife, Mrs Honey, Child Bride, and M, but it’s not always easy. A lot of thought goes into my French conversations, lots of hand gestures, and pointing, and intensive listening… it can be exhausting,  and after a year and a half here, I’m pretty sure that no one really gets me yet, and that kind of sucks). And having Aidan in Le Petit Village felt more like having my crazy sister come to visit than some strange lady I met on the internet (it should also be noted that although technically I met Aidan on the internet, she is not strange, well, not too strange anyway, and any strangeness is a good, fun kind of strange, not a creepy lock the doors kind of strange).

It can be easy to take laughter for granted, and that weekend we laughed a lot, and I loved every second of it. We laughed at the toddlers going hell-for-leather through the old village (after they were in safe hands of course), I laughed at Honey Jr pouting over his Playstation loss (pointed and laughed is a bit more accurate). I laughed at the Texas trash names we made up for each other… Maybelline, Lori Al, and April May June (I think April May June might be my favorite). And I laughed a whole lot on the Saturday night when Aidan, Mrs Canadian and I escaped to my friend, M’s house for some ‘quiet’ time. I’d tell you what it was we were laughing about but I like to keep this space a PG kind of place and apparently, Maybelline, Lori Al, and April May June, don’t know how to have PG conversations. So since I can’t tell you, how about some photos of the weekend instead. Deal? Deal.

{the tree in front of La Petite Notre Dame all tarted up}
{Aidan and Oldest admiring the view}

{Aidan, Oldest, and Mrs Canadian trying to corral the toddlers}
{And the cherry tree where M and I took Oldest to pick cherries}
And I’m not the only one who enjoyed the company… The Husband has a little bromance with Mr Aidan. He even joked to him that he’d let all the air out of his tires so they wouldn’t be able to leave (at least I hope he was joking).
Now that’s lock the door kind of strange.
Just sayin’

  1. I so painfully wanna come visit too! I do fear however, that all the pictures would be taken in the Parisian's bar….

  3. What a laugh! I have an English friend who has lived in Provence very happily for nearly forty years and who is as dug in with the locals as anyone can be, but even she says that now and again she needs to spend time belly-laughing with no holds barred with people from her own cultural background. It's the shorthand connections that shared references give that she misses sometimes.

  5. It's all so true. That feeling of ease and connection and that someone actually understands you without jumping through language barrier hoops and still not being sure they've 'gotten it'. What's funny is that we were talking so much Texan that I don't know if anyone else understood us…even the Canadian. And our boys. I mean the big ones. They're in lurve!aidan xo

  6. I love that you made a friend through the Internet. We can learn so much about someone through writing. Looks like a friend for life:) I think it's hilarious that they couldn't understand your 'Texan Talk!'

  7. That is so awesome that you have someone nearby to have that quality girl time with. It's great you have French people to converse with as well, of course, but, I totally get what you're saying about speaking/thinking in another language. It IS exhausting, not to mention the occasional headaches one gets sometimes.Btw- L-O-V-E the trashy Texan names! Somehow, I think one could make a drinking game out of this… don't know why that occured to me, but, it did. 😉 Bisous!

  9. Sounds like you had a great time together. Girl time is so important and can really do wonders to a gal's spirits. I have to say, my favorite Texas trash name is also April May June. Too funny! Glad to hear you had such a nice visit together.

  13. It sounds so fun!! It sucks that no one completely gets you yet, but these things take time, especially with such a big language barrier. And it's so lovely that found someone with whom you connected with right away 🙂

  14. April May June sounds like the name for a good character in a Southern novel…may have to use that…! Glad you survived or should I say the little 2 year old's survived the visit. Isn't it wonderful to enjoy good friends? They add so much to life.

  18. I hear you. After six years in London I have made a bunch of new, wonderful friends – but I still miss my old friends very very much. And it's not a language barrier in my case that keeps me from having similar relationships. xx
