it's all happening

{My Knight in Scuffed Nikes}

++ The Husband traveled 62 miles each way to get me a Starbucks. OK, kind of. He was at Marseille Airport with Brother-in-Law picking up a friend when he saw that the new Starbucks had finally opened up. (Remember when I spotted the sign during the summer and had a happy little freak out?)  He called and asked if I wanted him to pick me up something. My response was basically along the lines of, “Um, yeah, don’t bother coming home unless you have a vanilla latte, and you must do everything in your power to keep it warm, and spill free.” About an hour and a half later, my Knight in Scuffed Nikes arrived home with a lukewarm Starbucks cup and I couldn’t have been happier.

++ I got a phone call from someone letting me know a ‘gold expert’ was in the area and if we have any gold or jewellery in the house, this ‘gold expert’ would be more than happy to come by and appraise it for us. Oh, sure, come on over. Does anyone actually fall for this? I certainly hope not.

++ Dr. Seuss isn’t that big in France, which I think is more than a little sad, so when I came across The Cat in the Hat on Amazon written in both English and French, I just knew I had to buy it for La Petite. And I went ahead and threw ‘Poisson Un, Poisson Deux, Poisson Rouge, Poisson Bleu’, ‘Les Oeufs Verts au Jambon’, and ‘Horton Entend Un Zou’ in my basket for good measure. La Petite is going to be fully Seussed by the time I’m finished with her.

++ My GFC hovered at 666 for a bit, totally freaking me out. Not that I’m super superstitious or anything, but it’s still felt spooky and I didn’t like it one bit. So a big thank you to number 667. (And of course a big thank you to all of you. All of you make me very, very happy.)

++ I already have The Husband’s Christmas present bought and shipped to my mother’s house in Texas. I’m feeling quite chuffed with myself for being ahead of the Reindeer Games this year.

++ The Husband’s Xmas pressies were sent to my mother’s house because she is returning to The LPV for Christmas! (Fifty is beside himself with excitement). And not only is she bringing herself (the best Christmas gift ever), but she’s bringing Christmas jammies for the whole LPV Crew… even Gatz! We’re going to be quite the festive bunch this holiday season. And I’m sure I sound like a loon, talking about Christmas and festivities when it’s not even Halloween yet, but it is only 56 days people, and that’s not much time at all.

Giddy-up let’s go

bisou

  2. How exciting that your mom is coming back for Christmas. We are biting the bullet and taking our whole crew back to the States. So do you think the husband would mind bringing up a luke warm Starbucks to CFE?

  3. I wish my mom would visit for Christmas. She won't come back. Says she's already seen Aix en Provence! Really? I gave those same books to a little one here in France…in French. His parents were just talking about it last night. They are his favorite books. And his parents had never heard about them. Consider yourself an ambassador!

  4. Noooo, too soon for Christmas! No idea what I'm doing, since my granddad doesn't seem to want us this year! When I was an assistant, one of the other assistants GAVE HER FLATMATE'S LAPTOP to a guy who turned up at the door and said he was meant to take it in for repair. Wouldn't you just die when the penny dropped and you realised you had to explain to your flatmate (I think only a few weeks of meeting them) that you straight up just gave their laptop to a thief?

  5. Congratulations on being SO ahead of the game with your hubby's Christmas gift! I'm in awe! Gifting your man isn't always easy and it must feel good to have that done with!I hope you enjoyed your vanilla latte. Fall is ALL about the vanilla latte! Is Starbucks as expensive down there as it is here? A grande vanilla latte is like 4,60. Is that about right for you guys?

  6. Whoa cannot believe you already bought his Christmas gift. Way impressive. And glad you got a little taste of the USA in some Starbuck's! We actually have one in KArlsruhe which surprises me daily, but I tend to use it more for free wifi when I'm wandering in the city

  7. What a great hubby, Sara! I think we Americans take ammenities like Starbucks for granted. Especially this time of year when they feature all those deliciously festive concotions like gingerbread lattes. You should start whipping up some of your own! 🙂

  9. You are very lucky to have this sweet man! I am slightly addicted to Dunkin Donuts pumpkin latte. I am not truly a coffee drinker, but think maybe I am becoming a big girl! And now a coffee and 666 story…I was at DD getting Thursday morning coffee and 2 muffins for someone at school, when the total came to 6.66! I looked at the girl, the girl looked at me, and I asked if she could add something else. “I already added in a munchkin” was her quick and efficient life-saving reply. Then she asked me to come back the next morning so she'd know I was ok!If you have the new Bailey's creamers over there, you must try, they are sooooo good :)Off to watch the forecast for our Hurricane Sandy!

  12. I hear ya on the Starbucks thing. We couldn't get them at all in Panama. Now in Mexico, we have 4 within 3 miles of each other. I used to go every week, now I've slowed down a bit.

I read this quite awhile ago but didn't have time to respond so will just quicly say before pulled elsewhere: yes, he is a true knight in scuffed Nikes (hey, we have to work with the times) and that your Mom is coming for Christmas? Well…it made me feel an emotion that isn't good to have that starts with a 'j'. Crazily happy for you though!!!

  20. Hi all, and although there are quite a few Starbucks here in Lyon I've never actually been into one as they are always full of people (like McDonalds) whereas I prefer quieter places.I did finally visit one though, during a recent visit to London. It was in Victoria Station and I was very disappointed unfortunately. My pale and almost coffee-less latte came in a mug of almost a litre and the pastries were nothing much else but sugar. Ugh. Maybe I just hit on a bad one? Or maybe I just happen to prefer my café du quartier with its grand crème and pain au chocolat.Hmmm, I'll make an effort to visit a Starbucks this week…

  21. There aren't many Starbucks here in the South, there is one in Marseille and a new one in the airport but that's about it. I've heard rumors of one opening in Nice or Toulon soon though…Starbucks actually isn't great coffee, it's more 'coffee like'. I love it more because it feels like home to me. When I go into a Starbucks and get that white paper cup with the green logo on it, for a split second I'm transported back home. That's why I love it.

I say that because although I much prefer 'real' coffee, as in an expresso, to 'American' coffee, I have learned to appreciate the latter (no, not a play on words:) over the years during my many visits to America. One car trip in particular stands out in my mind. I drove my girlfriend and her ageing mother down from Chicago to Austin in a hurry and with very few stops, and all I can say is thank god for the coffee which kept me awake on the way down there.Sure it was weak. Sure it wasn't a Moka. Sure it came in a plastic cup. But it sure as hell was American coffee and it was welcome. I stopped at a garage every 150 miles or so to pick up a fresh one, place it in the ring behind the gearbox, and get back behind the wheel…..
