++ It looks like those pesky April showers have given way to May flowers. After a month of mostly rainy days the weekend is forecast for sunny skies and 21°C/ 70°F (after we get past the 60% chance of rain today). It’s perfectly delightful weather for barbecues and rugby which is fantastic because that’s what we’re doing this weekend. (Total shocker, right?!)

++ For May Day (Labor Day/ La Fête du Travail) my neighbor presented me with a potted lily-of-the-valley (the traditional May Day flower). It’s decorating my windowsill next  to the tiny rose bush she gave me a month ago. Since moving to France I’ve been very lucky in the neighbor department and that’s something to be grateful for. There is nothing as horrible as having nasty neighbors.

++ Fifty has a bad case of doggie insomnia lately. The past two nights he’s been awake pacing about and sticking his nose in my face while I’m sleeping. He’s like, “Mom, whatya doing?” Waking up in the middle of the night with a dog face staring at you from six inches away is quite startling. Now, none of us are sleeping. I’m thinking of shooting him with a tranquilizer dart (I’m just kidding, I don’t have any tranquilizer darts…. note to self… find and order tranquilizer darts).

++ In thirteen days I’ll be hopping a flight from Marseille to Dublin. Yippee-ki-yay! I know I was there in February but that was such a wham bam thank you ma’am kind of trip, that it barely counts. This time, we’re going for a week and I have so much planned that I know it’s going to pass by in the blink of an eye but that’s fine, because it will be an awesome blink.

++ Two days after we get back from Dublin, we’ll be going to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer for the pilgrimage honoring Saint Sara, a.k.a. the Gypsy’s pilgrimage. There are no words to describe how excited I am about this, it’s like jumping up and down, piddling excited. I’ve been waiting for this for ages and now it’s only three weeks away! I’m practically verklempt.

++ Last night I finished reading Fall of Giants. It’s one of those times when finishing the book leaves you sad and a tad depressed. The next book in the series is out but I don’t want to read it yet because the third and final book in the series isn’t being released until sometime in 2014 and waiting a year between the second and third books sounds like torture. So in the meantime, I’m taking suggestions… feel free to leave one down there below in the section marked comments. S’il te plaît et merci.

Passe un bon week-end!

Bisou!

  1. Would Fifty be worried about thunder? They can feel it when the air is thundery, even if there aren't any “booms”, or maybe he can hear faraway ones. Anyway, how about trying this stuff http://www.nutri-science.net/pets/pdfs/KalmAid%20DL.pdfWe give it to Cinny whenever there is a possibility of thunder and it's magic. I just ordered some more online (I'm not sure if the vets here know about it), if you want to try giving him a couple of squirts some night give me a shout, although with the new improved forecast maybe he'll be fine from now on!!

  2. I know that's why he was all over the place on Tuesday night, but maybe you're right and there was 'quiet' thunder lurking about Wednesday and last night. I hope that's all it is because he's driving me nuts! And I'm a little worried about it. We'll see how he gets on over the weekend with clearer skies 🙂

  3. I sure hope your visit to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer lives up to your expectations. We have not been there for the parade but a dear friend of mine who had dreamed of going for many years went last year and she was bitterly disappointed. The town and parade were nothing like she expected.

  5. Say hi to Dublin for me! Was just there but only for a night on way to Boston. If you haven't read it yet and you like thrillers, I'd recommend Gone Girl by Gillian Duffy. Just read it on my trip and it is a page turner, and I'm not even a fan of thrillers!

  8. I read Tender is the Night and am currently on Great Gatsby in preparation for Baz Luhrman's movie. I like 'em both. More current – I read Gone Girl and it was really good (although vicious).

  9. Haha, my cats are like that too. They would come in the middle of the night and put their paws in your face. And then you are supposed to get up and give them food, cuddle with them etc.

  13. We searched and searched for muguets on the 1st, but wouldn't you know if I only found some on the 2nd of May. How do you think that'll influence my luck this year? As far as books, have you already read Wild, about the Pacific Crest Trail? Coming out in paperback here soon, I read it, then my mom, my grandma, my godmother and both my sisters. Guess what, we all loved it, and I think you would too.
